Many Palestinians are good, decent people who want peace.
As was pointed out to me recently, many (most?) Americans are embarrassed by what has become of our country. We have Democrats and illiberals ... they have Hamas, in Gaza. It has obtained and maintained its power unfairly, perhaps even violently. It would be easy to lump all Palestinians together, but it would be wrong. Just as it would be wrong to lump all of us together. I cannot stand what has happened to America. There are Palestinians who are sickened by many of their countrymen just as we are here with some of ours.
As for Israel, like all nations, has skeletons in its closet. I've read the Bible. I know its past.
Still, this needs to be stated, no matter what one thinks of the ages old conflict between Israel and its Islamic border (and beyond) nations what happened on October 7 last year was not a military operation. It was not resistance by a subordinate force. It was brutal, calculated terrorism because these extremist Jihadis, who think women are lower than cattle in the grand ladder of life, raped, tortured, and killed civilians. They did not take on the military might of Israel, they were too cowardly. No, these sick (word self-edited) targeted women and children. There is no side to argue. There is nothing to discuss.
It is required for you to know this because it informs Israel's actions in the months since the attack.
It will not stop ... nor should it.
When someone picks a fight, starts with the women and children of your family, it does not get the luxury of dictating the terms of how or when it ends. It just doesn't.
The crimes against Israel's people on October 7 demand a reckoning, an accounting for what "they" did.
